Discord

For Discord ( Jof, to the people that know him), it all started back in 1994, when a chance meeting with revered UK dj Loftgroover, set him on course to start buying the tracks he had heard on mix tapes, and in clubs.

After saving up enough money, and Birthday/Christmas presents from his family, Jof purchased a set of Technics, and a basic Numark mixer, and his dj`ing adventure started.

Playing hardcore techno, under the name “The Trapped Boy”, for the first 4 years or so, it was around 1998, when he found himself leaning more towards the harder drum & bass sounds of Ed Rush & Optical, Dillinja, Renegade Hardware, Dj Trace, and Panacea, to name a few. Having already mastered mixing and performing in front of a crowd, as “The Trapped Boy”, it wasn’t long before the gigs stared coming in for him to play drum & bass, supporting Ez Rollers, Randall, Peshay, Digital, Nicki Blackmarket, and Grooverider, to name a few, in his home town of Preston, UK. He was also resident at The Base Bar for over 3 years, with a weekly liquid session, that became one of the most popular nights held there.

During this period, Jof visited Seattle, on 4 occasions (from 2000 – 2003), where he struck up a solid friendship with Slantooth, through their love of drum & bass, and skateboarding. He got to play on Groovetech.com, played at the Baltic rooms, and a smattering of raves, with the aforementioned Slantooth, but that’s a story in its self.

In 2004, Jof ( now playing under the “Discord”moniker) moved to Mackay, Queensland, Australia and settled down into house buying/paying off, and routine everyday work, putting the djing on a back foot for a moment (but always staying on point with the music), aside from a few well received gigs locally in Mackay.

It wasn’t until Discord posted a mix to the Sydney Drum & Bass page on Facebook, that it pricked the ears of legendary Sydney promoter, Fez, from the well renowned Haunted Science crew, and an invite to go and play at a night in Sydney, that Discord was back in the fold.

Now a fully fledged member of Haunted Science, Discord has supported Klute, Dauntless, Dose, Fuj, Dj Rum, Future Engineers, to name a few, whilst also producing plenty of music that has been played by the likes of Klute, Spirit (RIP), A-Sides etc…

He has also played on the stages of some of the biggest dance music festivals in Australia, such as Subsonic Festival, and Mushroom Valley.

Discord retains the `old guard` values of his predecessors, with his track selection, and mixing second to none…. A force to be reckoned with on any stage, club, or podcast, Discord provides an uncompromising take on what we all love as Drum & Bass.
