Jaise
Biography
JAISE
Jaise first became acquainted with the sound of drum n bass in the late 90’s, the infamous Torque LP cover art sparking intrigue and creating an instant desire to hear what was in the sleeve. As a 16 year old, the sounds within captured his imagination and this new aural awareness changed the way he saw and felt about music. The precision, feeling and vibe all culminated in an experience that would result in an unquenchable thirst to find more like it. Becoming an avid collector from that point, and having a solid background in traditional music, it was only natural that DJing and production became the next step and until 2006 Jaise immersed himself in the Perth DnB/rave culture, all the while honing his musicianship and technique as a drummer.
At this point, although still having a keen interest in Drum n Bass, Jaise took the direction of playing in various bands which brought vast knowledge and experience including studying composition at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, working in the Australian concert touring industry, traveling Australia and the world as a musician and performing extensively both live and in the studio. It was through these recording sessions with world renowned producers that he developed greater knowledge and understanding of studio techniques. As time went on though, and the band lifestyle was no longer viable, his focus was redirected towards his first deep musical love, Drum n Bass, and a dig through the record collection in 2018 was all it took to get back in the production seat.
In 2019, his first single was released and a string of singles, collaborations, compilation inclusions, gigs and mix features resulted, spanning various labels and channels. It was on New Year’s Eve 2020/21 however, that a distinct style direction change was decided on and that he would take a more musical approach in his projects that year. By March, he had garnered the interest of Ant TC1 and the journey to complete an EP for Dispatch Recordings became the sole focus. Throughout this process, and experimenting with a focus on the idea of light and dark textures existing together, a string of tracks were created which not only finalised the Dispatch EP, but also resulted in 3 other EP’s being created and a collaboration which would gain the interest of Goldie and see his first track released on Metalheadz in December 2021.
In May 2022, his debut EP The Client was released on METHXX, receiving premiere recognition from Drum & Bass Arena and charted at 21 in the Beatport Top 100 Drum n Bass Releases. In December 2022, His second solo EP Something In My Mind was released, also on METHXX, solidifying his position on the Metalheadz roster and as an artist to keep a keen eye on in 2023. 3 of the 4 tracks received premiere recognition and the EP has had support from some of Drum n Bass’s most notable figures. 2023 saw him host the 75th Metalheadz Podcast in March and in May released his first EP for Rebel Music entitled Matter Takes Shape. The EP was well received, reaching number 13 in the Beatport Drum & Bass chart. June also saw the release of his first 6 track EP on Dispatch Limited, securing the 100th release for the imprint. In March 2024 Jaise saw the release of his 5th studio EP on US label Armory and in August 24 secured his first vinyl release on Dispatch Blueprints. 2025 saw a fresh single drop on Straight Up Breakbeat and Jaise is now awaiting the release of his next EP’s with Rebel Music and Dispatch Recordings.
Since late 2022 Jaise has promoted the monthly SUB/stance events in Perth, showcasing legacy artists and the more underground side of the genre. Having hosted the likes of Doc Scott, DJ Trace, Breakage, Digital, DJ Flight and a host of others, Jaise has cemented himself as a consistent and valuable contributor to the Australian Drum & Bass landscape.
With an insatiable desire to create, Jaise is now well and truly an established artist within the realms of Drum & Bass and continues to carve his niche and develop his own unique take on the genre, propelling things forward in his lifelong journey in music.
